I've never been entirely happy with the design of the Wheelspin website so I've decided to bite-the-bullet and make some fundamental changes before I return to adding new content. The visible changes - a "refresh" of the look-and-feel whilst keeping the same basic structure - will be immediately apparent to regular visitors, but there are also a number of more subtle changes intended to make the site easier for you to use and easier for me to maintain.

It is, however, just too complicated to try and run the old and the new sites in parallel so I've removed all the old pages and will publish the new versions over the next couple of weeks. See here for the current status.

My apologies that there have been no major website updates for over six months but I've had little spare time left after trying to earn a living in a recession, starting (at last) the re-assembly of my trials-prepared Marlin, and spending a considerable amount of time immersed in the MCC archives compiling a short appendix on the "Edinburgh Hills" for John Aley's reprint of the Garnier book chronicling the history of the MCC.

The Edinburgh Appendix, as published, is the first (very minor) output from a major research project to identify and list every observed section used by the MCC during its entire 100+ year history - the records are all available, it's just a matter of (a lot of) time to collate them all. I'd always known that todays Edinburgh Trial is much more like the PreWar MCC Sporting Trial than the PreWar Edinburgh, but I'd never realised that the lineage was quite so strong.

No fewer than six PreWar Sporting Trial hills are still in regular use on the Edinburgh - Bamford, Calton (Taddington Moor), Corkscrew (Jenkins Chapel), Litton, and Putwells 1 and 2. This beats the Exeter, where only four PreWar hills are still in regular use (Fingle, Higher Rill, Meerhay and Simms), and even the Lands End where just five PreWar hills are still observed on the main trial (Beggars Roost, Bluehills 1 and 2, Crackington and Darracott), although this does rise to eight if we count Class 0 hills (Barton Steep and Ruses Mill) and the now un-observed Lynmouth.

At the present moment it looks extremely unlikely that I will have the time for any major additions to the website this winter, although I do intend to keep the current Years pages up to date. This should not, however, stop anyone from submitting interesting material which I shall stash carefully away to add to the ever-growing pile of stuff that I will publish "someday".

My apologies that there have been no website updates for three months, but I have not been idle. I am currently in the middle of a major research project to identify and list every observed section used by the MCC for its entire 100+ year history. This is not quite as daunting as it sounds, although it is a huge task, as the late Donald Cowbourne did all the leg-work on the pre-1939 sections when producing his three wonderful books. I am now in possession of the relevant MCC archives for the Post War period and am steadily working my way through the years chronologically - I'm in the mid 1980s at present. More news when I have any worth reporting.
