In April 2005 I received several emails from Adele Pentony Graham whose father, Gerard Pentony, was active in motorsport through the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Adele had unearthed a load of photographs and trophies and was looking for more information about one of the photographs in particular. I made some enquiries at the time, without much success, so I'm now posting various bits and pieces of information in the hope that someone may be able to answer the questions.

"Here we are, Higgins Horror. Dad's car which he built himself - Cyclops. Surrey registration as Dad was at Thornton Heath, Surrey, a director of Moss and Lawson, the car showroom in London Road. All it has on the reverse is 'Higgins Horror. Photographed by James Brymer. Gerard Pentony at the steering wheel again.' "
So ... does anyone know where Higgins Horror might have been? The interesting point is that the photograph was taken by Brymer, the well-known trials photographer, so it may have been taken on one of the more major events. Any ideas?

"This was another of Dad's cars, which has been researched, and found still being driven in Leatherhead, Surrey. The present owner of this car has kindly contacted me! Made my birthday last week knowing that it was still in good order.. they built them to last before WW2."
Research by Stuart Ulph has identified this photograph as being taken at the Dancer's End hillclimb (near Tring), on Sunday 4th September 1938, at an event organised by the Berkhampstead Motor Club . The programme identifies the car as an 847cc MG and therefore most likely as an MG PA. Perhaps a MMM expert could confirm?

Adele also provided me with a list of some of her father's trophies. These are all from well-known events of the period so may help in identifying Higgins Horror?
