Photographs in books
In general, I do not reproduce photographs that are in Books on this website although they will all, eventually, be listed on the Trials Photographs Database.
Photographers, even today, generally select just one or two sections to photograph on each trial, and often return to the same section year-after-year. For PreWar events this means that a series of photographs taken on the same section, on the same trial, and on the same year, will often appear in a number of books or other reference sources, although it's rare that any one caption covers the full Who? What? When? and Where? By comparing photographs from different sources it's often possible to fill in the missing information, and that is one of my main goals in starting this website.
Photographs of historic events (pre 1990)
All the historic photographs in my possession are listed on the Trials Photographs Database.
In general, published photographs of historic events are indexed primarily by Car. This is because most photographs that I receive come with Who? or What? already known and we're searching for the When? and Where? There are a few photographs that are indexed only by Section - these are generally recent photographs taken to illustrate "then" and "now" comparisons.
The published photographs are a somewhat motley selection made on the basis of whether publication will advance our overall knowledge of the sport. So, for example, you won't find many photographs of well-known cars on well-known sections. Some of the photographs published on this website have been obtained from sources who retain the copyright to the originals. In these cases the copyright owner has given permission for reproduction on this website as a low resolution copy.
Photographs of current events (1990 and later)
In general, there are no photographs of current events on this site and they are not included on the Trials Photographs Database. Each Year Index provides links to external websites.
As the number of trials photographs websites is continually growing, I have had to introduce some basic rules to decide which links to provide: if there are photographs on the ACTC or MCC websites, then these always take precedence; I then make my personal selection of the galleries which I think hold the best photographs for each particular event.
