ACTC Crackington League 2003

After a slow start, Marlin representation in the ACTC Championships was almost up to the level of last year with eleven drivers scoring points in the Crackington League compared with twelve in 2002 and sixteen in 2000. At the end of last year I was encouraging everyone to enter more ACTC events but no one took my comments quite as seriously as I did myself with the result that I'm embarrassed to report that I was the top-scoring Marlin driver in the Championship and, what is even more surprising to me, the second highest-scoring driver in Class 7. The eleven Marlin drivers who did compete in the Championship were, however, obviously doing more events as they scored points from 41 entries, the same number as last year when there was one additional competitor. But I still find it disappointing that so many, and not just Marlin drivers, choose to compete in ACTC events without registering for the Championship and this obviously distorts the results.

With the exception of the three MCC events, the Exmoor Trial (Pete Hart highest-placed of four entries) and the Kyrle (Roland Panes highest-placed of four entries) were the best-attended by the Marlin contingent. Then came the Clee Hills (John Ludford best of three), the Hardy (Mal Allen best of three), and the Allen (Mal Allen best of three). Marlins were represented by one or two competitors in all the other ACTC Championship events with the exception of the Camel Classic which was obviously rejected as "too-rough" or maybe "too-tough" by all of us.
