Holsworthy - Taw & Torridge Trial

Although I've tried to encourage more Marlin owners to enter this season re-opener, this year's one-week-earlier-than-normal date meant that I was unable to enter for the second year running and Marlin honours were upheld by Mal Allen and Eric Smith. The conditions must have been somewhat different from when I last did the event, in 2002, with most of Class 7 clean through Leigh Woods (Restart), Crossleigh (Restart), and even Langtree Common (normally one to really sort the men from the boys). In contrast, Week Bottom stopped half the class whereas we all went easily clean two years ago. The restarts onTuckers Mill and Watergate Woods were cleaned by most (unusual!) leaving just Adrians's Aisle (a new section) and the Cutliffe Lane restart as the final challenges. With such low scoring in Class 7, Mal's two 7s, on Week Bottom and Cutliffe Lane, cost him dearly dropping him from 3rd to 5th with Eric just a couple of points further down in 6th place.
