Those not familiar with the ACTC Championships may need a little more explanation than is covered on the Getting Started page. The ACTC runs two main Championships - the Wheelspin League with scores based on overall positions, and the Crackington League with scores based on class positions. Although the Wheelspin is the 'premier' of the two leagues, regular competitors who are not avidly championship-chasing tend to be more interested in the results of the Crackington League as these more closely reflect an individual's performance against his or her direct competitors.

Between twenty five and thirty Marlin owners are active in classic trials at any one time, and the MCC events regularly attract between twenty and twenty five Marlin entries, so why does the Crackington League regularly feature far less than twenty drivers?

The three MCC trials are quite different in character from the 'one-day' ACTC trials and a significant number of Marlin competitors are members of the MCC only, and enter only the MCC events. As far as the ACTC events are concerned there is an additional twist, not explained on the 'Getting Started' page, that competitors do not have to be registered ACTC Competition Members to enter - they are only required to belong to an ACTC Member Club. As a result, those competing in classic trials have a number of options. For a typical year:

  • Around 40% compete in one-or-more of the MCC events, register with the ACTC as a Competition Member, and compete in a number of the ACTC events. (On this website their names will appear in the Marlin MCC League if they've scored enough points to get into the Top Ten, and the Crackington League if they've scored at least one point.)
  • Another 40% compete in one-or-more of the MCC events but none of the ACTC events. (On this website their names will appear in the Marlin MCC League if they've scored enough points to get into the Top Ten, but they will not appear in the Crackington League.)
  • The remaining 20% compete in one-or-more of the MCC events and one or two ACTC events, often run by their local club, but choose not to register as ACTC Competition Members. (On this website their names will appear in the Marlin MCC League if they've scored enough points to get into the Top Ten, but they will not appear in the Crackington League.)
  • Each year there are always one or two individuals who are neither MCC members, nor ACTC Competition Members, who enter a handful of ACTC events, often run by their local club. (On this website, you'll only see them mentioned in the occasional Trials Report.)
