Previously known as ...

A number of sections have changed their name over the years and it can sometimes be difficult to follow a report of a historic event if you don't recognise the names. This is the list that I have compiled so far.

  • Calton (Edinburgh) was known PreWar as Taddington Moor.
  • Corkscrew (Edinburgh) was known PreWar as Jenkin Chapel.
  • Crooked Mustard (Cotswold Clouds) was known PreWar as Breakheart.
  • Darracott (Lands End) was known for the 1933 Lands End only as Gooseham.
  • Excelsior (Edinburgh) was also known, PreWar, as Dirty Lane.
  • John Walker (Allen) was previously known as Hall Lane.
  • Swan Rake (Edinburgh) was known as Hollinsclough until 1937.
  • Tog Hill (Allen) was previously known as Doynton Lane (and there was also an Upper Doynton Lane that is no longer used).
  • Travers (Allen) was previously known as Ubley Drove.

One section, two names

Some sections in current use are known by different names when used by different clubs. No one seems to know whether this is just some quirk of history or a deliberate attempt to deceive, or both!. Here's a list of the ones I know about.

  • Bidgood Lane (Silverton) = Port Lane (Minehead).
  • Bray Hill (Holsworthy) = High Bray (North Devon).
  • Crackington (MCC) = Mineshop (Launceston).
  • Higher Gabwell (MCC) = Higher Shells (Torbay).
  • Romansleigh (Silverton) = Oxeham (North Devon).
  • Upper Dean (MCC) = Lower Dean (Torbay).
